covid-19 safety plan
Updated June 17, 2021: We are currently in Step 2 of BC’s Restart Plan (effective June 15); individual workouts in the gym area and group sports activities fall under different categories of restrictions
Current guidelines for indoor martial arts activities (viasport.ca/return-sport)
1) GENERAL OPERATION
Equipment can no longer be shared in a single day. We strongly recommend purchasing your own hand pads, shin guards, boxing gloves, gym sandals and gi. Gis and equipment must be washed daily.
We have provided disinfectants (sprays and/or wipes) throughout the facility. Members are required to disinfect areas of contact before and after each use.
If any rules are not followed that are deemed to increase the potential spread of Covid-19, we will issue a verbal warning as well as an email detailing the infraction. In the case of repeated violations or blatant/intentional disregard, we will issue a 2 week suspension. This suspension is not a “hold” and regularly scheduled billing will resume. This type of behavior puts us in a position where Covid-19 may spread at the gym, resulting in a full gym closure, a complete suspension of revenue and a loss of community trust. We will not take that risk.
i) The Mat Space
Classes must be signed up for at least 5 minutes prior on the Zen Planner member login; every member received login information on their sign-up date. Unattended registered classes or those that are cancelled with less than 1 hour notice will be subject to a $10 cancellation/no show fee. Attended, unregistered classes will be subject to a $5 non-registration fee.
3) ENTERING THE GYM
No one is permitted to enter the gym until everyone from the previous class has exited and they have been verbally screened and confirmed that they are asymptomatic. Accordingly, members must wait outside or in their car until they have been individually assessed.
Upon entry, members are to sanitize or to wash their hands with soap and water before entering a change room.
Doors will be locked after class starts to prevent unrestricted traffic.
Nonmembers are not permitted to enter the facility without an appointment; this includes: friends, relatives (even parents) of members. We will no longer have a seating/waiting area. Exceptions apply exclusively to parents of children that require help going to the bathroom or in emergency scenarios. If this happens, we will come get you to assist your child. If your child leaves the class at any point, they will not be permitted to re-enter.
4) EXITING THE GYM
The coach will individually select the students closest to the exit to leave first, working towards the back of the mat space. Stopping/congregating in common areas is no longer permitted; all entrances and exits must be swift and efficient.
5) ILLNESSES AT THE GYM
If Spence/Jensen get sick or there are any confirmed Covid-19 cases associated with the facility, the gym will close for 14 days. All memberships and associated fees will be extended for this period.
Adult members that begin to feel ill partway through class must leave.
If children say they are not feeling well, they will have to sit on a bench until the end of class and leave with everyone else. Exceptions apply to those clearly exhibiting symptoms.
Current guidelines for indoor martial arts activities (viasport.ca/return-sport)
- Group sports for adults and youth are allowed (including games, competitions and practices)
- Recreational travel, including for sport, allowed with BC
- Physical distance not required on field of play (i.e., contact is allowed); off field of play, physical distance of 2 metres must be maintained
- Field of play: no mask required; off field of play: masks required
- No spectators
- “to determine overall occupancy for individual and group exercise: each workout room/space must have at least 7 square metres of unencumbered usable floor space per patron/staff who will be in the space exercising”, accordingly, the maximum occupancy of the weight area is 3
- physical distance of 2.5 metres between each patron in all directions must be maintained while exercising (and 2 metres when not exercising)
- as per Ministerial Order M012, masks must be worn at all times in exercise facilities, including while exercising (this excludes the mat space for martial arts activities)
- Members must undergo symptom-screening before being permitted to enter the facility. Anyone with symptoms of Covid-19 will be denied access to training.
- Doors open 5 minutes before class. Do not enter until you have been symptom-screened and after the previous class has finished exiting. As this is time consuming, please ensure that you arrive to class as ready as possible and exit swiftly after your class.
- Doors will be locked after class begins to prevent unrestricted traffic. Please message us if you will be late or you may be locked out and assessed a no-show fee.
- Although masks are required in all areas of the gym except the martial arts mat spaces, this mandate excludes children under 12 year old
